This is a quick, entertaining non-fiction read perfect for those who feel a bit stuck or lost in their lives. I always appreciate an author who will be very candid about their struggles and who also inspires me to live a better life. Rachel Hollis is the CEO of the wildly popular website “The Chic Spot”. She is an incredibly driven, self made woman whose grit and sheer determination have made her the successful woman she is today.
In her memoir Rachel is brutally honest about the trials and failures that have helped shape her life paradigm. Told in the format of 20 lies she used to believe and has overcome Rachel provides heartbreaking and inspiring stories that are both relatable and readable. The result is delightful. From this book I learned about not taking “no” for an answer, doing things you think you can’t, taking responsibility for your emotions, actions, and health, being the best version of yourself, respecting yourself enough to stand up for you, and lots more.
Rachel comes on a little strong at the beginning but her tone and sentiment find a harmonious pace within the first few chapters. I read one chapter or “lie” each night for 20 nights and it was the perfect way to digest this book. The chapters are short and inspiring without being overwhelming. This would be the perfect gift for a friend or family member in her twenties, but it can certainly be enjoyed by a broader age group than that. Recommended.
