Top Ten Books of 2017

I love this part of the year, when I get to look back at all the books I’ve read, all the characters I’ve fallen in love with, and all the “places” I’ve been. 2017 started out a little rough but, as far as book quality goes, finished strong. Before we get to the top 10, let me give you the stats. Of the 66 books I completed this year:

11 were contemporary fiction

2 were Classics

10 were Fantasy

34 were Historical Fiction

2 were Memoirs

1 Middle Grade

3 Non-Fiction informative

3 were Science Fiction

I also started 2-4 books which I haven’t finished yet but intend to, and I abandoned 6. My best reading month was July where I completed 10 books, and my worst reading month was December (no surprise there) where I only finished 1.

Below are the best of the best of 2017 and (luckily) just happen to include at least one book from every genre. In no particular order my favorite books of 2017 were:

Hillbilly Elegy-Memoir

Salt to the Sea-Historical Fiction

The Happiness Project-Non Fiction

The Name of the Wind-Fantasy

A Monster Calls-Middle Grade

The Blue Castle-Classics

Heartless-Young Adult/Fantasy

Illuminae-Science Fiction

The Storied Life of AJ Fikry-Contemporary Fiction

Lab Girl-Memoir

Let me know in the comments what your favorite reads of 2017 were and what to put on my list for next year. Here’s to a great reading year in 2018!

Yes we have many that are the same. I also read A Monster Calls and it was just okay for me. Let’s chat about it next time we see each other. I also want to share my 2018 book list with you to see if you’ve read any.

I loved The Storied Life of AJ Fikry. It just kept getting better and better. Have you read Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine? It was one of my favorites from the last year.

Natalie. I have been reading Eleanor Oliphant this past week (I’m almost done!) and it has been excellent. I don’t typically love contemporary fiction, but both Eleanor and AJ have been wonderful surprises!
