Winter may be my least favorite season to live through, but it is by far my favorite season to read in. There’s just something magical about being tucked up with a blanket and a book while its biting cold outside. What’s more is I never have “reader guilt” in the winter since it’s so miserable outside, no part of me wants to be out in the snowy elements instead of curled up with my book. Oddly enough even though I count the days between fall and spring I love reading about winter. To me it is the most vivid of all the seasons to read about. Perhaps it is its extremity, or maybe its mystery, but winter as seen through the eye of a reader is so satisfying. Below I have listed seven titles where winter plays a central role in the book, even so much that it comes alive and could be counted as pivotal character to each story. You could read these books any time of the year and enjoy them and remember the beauty of winter, but there is considerable satisfaction in reading about winter as you’re tucked in and sheltered from the cold that’s only and open window away.
Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys

The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden
